2002 Finals mark the
end of the first Digitizing Olympics
Greetings
Embroidery World!
The 2002 Finals are now behind
us along with a great year of events. Congratulations go out to our Olympics
Finalists, who worked very hard to qualify for the year end event.
Janel Harris will receive
a Wilcom ES 21L Software Program courtesy of Wilcom.
Congratulations and special thanks go out to all of our Olympians who participated
this year, and a BIG thanks to our judges
who found the extra time to stitch these designs and give an honest, professional
critique.
As for a 2003 Digitizing
Olympics, we are working hard behind the scenes to find sponsorship and
support to host these events for another year. The Embroidery Olympics
have already been scheduled for 2003, and if we can find the support, the
Digitizing Olympics will run another year of events.
The
2002 Finals
Due to our budget we regrettably
did not have the opportunity to broadcast the event via web cam from the
Opryland Convention Center as scheduled. An estimated 3000 attended the
Embroidery Mart on the weekend of August 2nd. The Finalists designs were
stitched and judged live from the Convention Center floor by judges Tammy
Prim, Lynn Rhodes and Lisa Kirchner. Running on a newly developed commercial
machine supplied by Needle Bahn Technologies, Janel's Gold Medal winning
design ran at 1,500 stitches per minute without one thread break, and completed
what was likely an intense 5 1/2 hour digitizing project for Dimensional
Designs.

Without the assistance and
support from Embroidery
University and the National
Network of Embroidery Professionals, the Digitizing Olympics Finals
could not have been more than an online event. Thank you Jeni Cox and the
staff at NNEP,
and again Alan Bird with the Embroidery University for your support.
A thousand thanks to Derek Morrow and Needle Bahn Technologies for allowing us to use their machine to run the medalists designs at the Embroidery Mart. Our arrangements for a machine fell through at the last minute, and Derek stepped up to help out on super short notice during a very busy show. Visit Needle Bahn Technologies web site and take a look at the F8 PC, other machines, accessories and more.
Thank you Wilcom

It will not be forgotten ;^)
Thanks again to everyone
