The Digitizing Olympics 2002

Award Ceremony Transcript
Small Lettering Event - November 2001
Winners Circle Chat Room

<Rags> Welcome to the first Digitizing Olympics Medalist Ceremony! I hope everyone is as excited as I am to be here  today!
<Rags> My appologies to those that couldnt make the ceremony due to time and time zones, I hope everyone made it that could. I need to take a poll on the best time to host the live chats in order to accomidate those overseas.
<Rags> There is also the Lattes chat tonight I did not want to  interfere with at 10:00 EST
<Rags> The first preliminary event is complete, Small Lettering  was the category.
<Rags> The artwork presented more challenges in addition to small lettering, and the Olympians did a great job  rendering the design and completing the challenge.
<Rags> First off, a very big round of applause to the Judges. They were literally out-numbered by the amount of Olympians  and did a great job in taking the time to sew the designs  and submit their opinions within their own busy schedules.
    Thanks Judges!
<Lynn> YW :)
<Rags> There have been and will continue to be discussion on  how the event was held, and we are working to improve those  things already. We will get to those comments and open the  opportunity for discussion in a bit.
<Tina Perry> You're welcome - it was fun to do
<Rags> This was the very first Digitizing Olympics event, and  hopefully we have all learned something from it.
<Rags> On to the awards.
<Rags> As mentioned the event was Small Lettering.
<Rags> The digitizers were only given the folowing information:
<Rags> 4 Colors, Light knits with a cutaway backing, and the  final design size.

--> [CINDY] has joined the Chat Room
<Rags> Thanks again to everyone who participated
<Rags> the medalists page has been updated
<CINDY> I have just joined. Have I missed the medalists?
<Guest> Marilyn here what good news. It was a lot of fun to  participate. Thanks Rags for setting it up.
<Rags> Hi marylin, great job, congrats!
<Bonnie> Congrats Marilyn!
<Guest> Can't wait for the next event. Thanks everyone
--> [CINDY] has left the Chat Room
<Bonnie> What's the next event Rags?
<Rags> Cap detail and registration
<Rags> We will also be refining the judging procedures a bit
<Janel> I can't wait!
<Rags> as well as give the digitizers more specific info
<Bonnie> I think I may have to give that a try too
<Lynn> Good Rags...the judging can get confusing
<Rags> Ideas have been coming out from suggestions which are  all welcome and appreciated
<threads> kel...will the judges be required to sew the designs on the hats?
<Rags> i am working on a sponsor to supply caps
<Bonnie> Yes, I think that if we get more specific information it will be easier, making the job faster as well.
<Rags> so the judges have them and some left over
<threads> cool
<Janel> great idea
<Rags> also, the judges will need cap frames of course
<Lynn> That would be great Rags...I was wondering about that also.
<Rags> Im pretty confident it will happen
<threads> cool
<Bonnie> Yeah, you really can't judge a cap design well except on a cap
<Rags> Ill keep the stitch count lower if I can too ;^)
<threads> I must say it was interesting watching all the designs sew
<Janel> digitizers will need cap details
<threads> TY
<Lynn> Are the digitizers numbers going to be changed with each event?
<Bonnie> Now that there's more folks involved, the sponsor should benefit from it
<Rags> I am hoping to send the digitizers and the judges the caps
<Rags> that way everyone is on the same page
<Janel> excellent
<threads> great
--> [Cindy] has joined the Chat Room
<Bonnie> So will that mean we'd have to register to do the cap design way before hand to get the caps?
<Rags> Alot went into this event, more will go into the next one  to assure fairness, quality and above all
<Rags> our goal of raising the level of digitizing and embroidery
<Rags> and educating as well
<Rags> That would be a good idea
<Cindy> Do I have to register each month or does the registration stand for each event?
<Rags> I do alot of running around behind the scenes, dont want FedEx involved ;^)
<Rags> You only need to register once
<Rags> Then choose the events you wish to participate in
<Cindy> Rags can I find out if my entry was recieved?
<Rags> Ill know by your digitizer registration number Cindy
<Cindy> I was a little late sending it.
<Lynn> digitizer's  reg. numbers...should they be changed each  event?
<Rags> Yes, I think they will be changed each event
<Lynn> cause we, as judges, could compare the winners to the design files
<Tina Perry> I thought it was interesting to see how different digitizers interpreted the design.  I hope participation  continues.
<Lynn> and figure out who is who
<Cindy> How do I find my registration number
<Rags> Cindy,
<Lynn> Good Rags
<Rags> If you registered after the deadline, you have not  received a number yet
<Cindy> I was about 2 hours late sending my design.
<Rags> I know there was a couple, maybe three that registered  within hours or after the deadline
<Rags> They did not receive registration numbers due to the time  involved
<Rags> Cindy, did you name your design G001?
<Cindy> I registered early but sent the design in late.
<Cindy> yes
<Rags> I have 11 designs, all registration numbers but that one
<Rags> OK
<Rags> I got it
<Rags> It was judged too
<Rags> I took an educated guess at who it was
<Cindy> Ok, thanks
<Cindy> Good guess.
<Janel> do we have to sign up for each event
<Rags> Everyone will receive a new registration number for the
    next event
<Janel> ok
<Rags> no Janel, if you dont participate you can just ignore the new number in your e-mail you receive
<Guest> I wonder if it would be possible for the judges to leave  more notes on how they would like to see the designs improved
<Rags> Absolutely
<Guest> This  would be very educational for us.
--> [Patty] has joined the Chat Room
<Rags> We are going to change the point scale a bit
<Tina Perry> do the digitizers get judges sheets?
--> [Cindy] has left the Chat Room
<Bonnie> Guest, I agree!
<Patty> I would like to be a judge.  Can I?
<Rags> Yes Patty
<Rags> We could use more as the digitizer list is growing
<Rags> and we need to spread out the workload
<Lynn> Hi Patty
<Lynn> yeah!
<Bonnie> lol!
<Patty> how do I sign up?
<Lynn> hehe
<Tina Perry> welcome Judge Patty
<Rags> Go to the registration page from the menu, fill out the  form and refresh the list of judges, you will be there
<Patty> wow that was easy
<Lynn> Don't gibe her the big head Tina...lol
<Bonnie> So Rags, about caps, should we tell you in e-mails we're  going to participate?
--> [Cindy] has joined the Chat Room
<Guest> I sewed all the designs myself and learned alot from just  seeing how others digitize. Thing like why didn't I think of  that or I'm going to try that next time. I think this is  going to be very  educational.
<Rags> Ill be sending an alert soon about the cap event
<Rags> I would like to nail down the sponsor first
<Bonnie> Guest, I agree!  That's what's most important about this contest
<Cindy> I hope I didn
--> [Patty] has left the Chat Room
<Cindy> Start over....I hope I didn't miss anything. I was  discnnected.
<threads> Kel...are the results of the judging open for all to  see?
<Rags> We will have a digitizer chat, and a judges chat before  the next event.
<Lynn> good
<Rags> The Medalists are posted, the Olypians received their results via e-mail
<threads> oh ok
<Rags> I am pasting a transcript to post to the site Cindy
--> [Janel] has left the Chat Room
<Rags> Our friends in other countries arent here, I thought they  would like that
<Lynn> I'll see ya'll later....better go see what's cooking at  EGO chat, before they disown me.
--> [Lynn] has left the Chat Room
<Rags> Oh, its almost time.
<Rags>
<Rags> Well, thanks again everyone!
<Tina Perry> Rags - this was great.  We really appreciate all the  time and effort you put into it.
<Rags> Ill be at Lattes if y'all want to continue any discussions  in a bit
<Bonnie> Your welcome and keep up the great work -- and thanks  for doing it!
<Rags> thanks Bonnie
<Rags> See you all at the next event!
